Ugly Duckling Ventures is a new VC with a strong founder team that have a track record of building companies and products and get them ready for scale, fast.
We are currently raising 150mDKK for our first fund "The Nest". The minimum investment is 750.000 DKK for investors.
Who is Ugly Duckling Ventures?
At Ugly Duckling Ventures we have a track record of building great companies and products, and get them ready for scale, fast. This experience combined with a very active approach is our winning formula for the startups we back.
When we invest in companies, our initial ticket size is typically 2-5 mDKK with a heavy follow-up thesis in our winners.
We mainly focus on businesses that meet the following criteria:
- Default alive: Growth businesses, with a clear road to profitability
- Founders: High integrity with unique and personal industry insight
- Stage: Post revenue, but yet to raise a large SEED round
- Type: Digital at it’s core or putting a digital spin on an analogue market
- Geo. Based in the Nordics

We have a track record of building, scaling and exiting
SaaS, E-commerce and Consultancy companies and products.
Rune Hven-Jensen
CO-FOUNDER & GP
Rune has 12 years’ hands-on experience in building SaaS and E-commerce products. He was the first employee in Nodes and later relocated to London to found Nodes’ UK branch. Rune later joined Danish SaaS company Planday and stayed across 3 funding rounds and an exit to global SaaS unicorn Xero in 2021. Actively angel investing since 2016.
Who are we together?
We have been working together for 10+ years prior to starting Ugly Duckling Ventures, including 5 years at Nodes and 5 years as co-angel investors.
We have a strong network in, and deal flow from, the Danish startup scene; being active in the community for +13 years. We also possess a strong corporate network, which supplies us with a great extended network that we leverage for the companies we invest in.
Getting the opportunity to work together as co-founding partners at UDV is a great new adventure and we’re thrilled to see our first winners start to materialise.
